Icelandic Arctic Fox Photography Tour

Experience true seclusion in the heart of the untamed wilderness, through our Iceland wildlife photography tours.

Our Iceland photography tour is based in Hornstrandir Nature Reserve. Here we can take advantage of the extended daylight hours to optimise our outdoor time with the foxes.

This location is renowned for its blue morph Arctic fox population, which is the rarest coloration. They are also accustomed to human presence, allowing for truly unique photo opportunities.

Our experienced photography guides will provide expert advice as we capture the foxes on camera with telephoto lenses.

In addition to our time at Hornstrandir, we also spend some time at exclusive accommodations in Reykjavik. Depending on the weather conditions, we might also get the opportunity to photograph the mesmerising Northern Lights.

If the circumstances are favourable, your guide will organise an aurora workshop. Ensuring that you can capture the perfect shot of this natural phenomenon!

Tour Outline

This tour can be physically demanding. Please seek medical advice prior to booking.

Please find below a rough schedule outlining the intended tour schedule. However, keep in mind that this may change due to unexpected situations or bad weather.
  • Day 1

    • Once the group has arrived in Reykjavik, we shall proceed towards our lodging for the night, in the city.
  • Day 2

    • In the morning, we will board a domestic flight to the town of Ísafjörður.

    • Upon our arrival, we will be greeted and transferred to the town's harbour, which is only a 5-minute drive away.

    • From there, we will embark on a boat ride that will take us to the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve. This is where we will spend the next four nights.

It is important to note that the weather during this time of year can be unpredictable, and the boat crossing may be rough at times.

    • To reach the shores of Hornstrandir, we will board a zodiac and make a wet landing.

    • Depending on when we arrive at the lodge, we’ll set off for our first Arctic fox shoot.
  • Day 3 - 5

    • Our focus for the next three days will be to fully immerse ourselves in the wild. Trekking through the secluded expanse of the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve.

    • Our time can be spent without limits, capturing beautiful shots of the foxes. Utilising morning and evening light to optimise our photos. However, in the event of turbulent weather, the middle of the day presents a great opportunity, especially during snowfall.

    • It is common for the normally reclusive foxes to visit the lodge in search of extra food in the months of January to March. Luckily, these foxes are quite tolerant of humans, and they provide excellent opportunities for photography.

    • We also facilitate optional tutorials on digital darkroom techniques each evening.

    • Alternatively, if the night sky is clear, we can venture out to capture the starry expanse, utilising long exposure techniques. We may even be lucky enough to capture the Northern Lights!
  • Day 6

    • Our time in the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve is coming to an end. If our schedule permits, we plan to snap a few more photos of the Arctic foxes before departing. With any luck, we'll come away with some wonderful shots to add to our collection.

    • Next, we'll depart on a boat ride to Ísafjörður.

    • From there, we'll make our way to the local airport for our flight back to Reykjavik. Here is where we'll be spending the final night.
  • Day 7

    • Feel free to wander around Reykjavik today as we have no scheduled activities.

    • However, make sure to be at the airport on time for your return flights home.
